PUTNEy town website
Previously using a Wordpress site, PTRC needed a new design and an easier platform. Every year a new committee are selected to manage the club and communicate to their members, the new site needed to be easy to maintain and expand on, by multiple editors.
Squad and Learn to row pages were the priority for the site, allowing potential athletes to contact co-ordinators, sign up as a new member or book onto a course. Secondary to this was showcasing the club’s facilities and hiring availability, bringing an important revenue stream into the club.
Lastly, a members area was created with a selection of plug-ins, including: a kit shop, with stock take and multi-payment functionality; live tide information; a boat sign out system, allowing for better water safety; and club-held ticketed events.
Working with a professional photographer from membership, we staged and took photos both for the website and for the kit shop, creating a professional environment that would also help increase sales.
The first big task was to audit the website, reducing pages and ensuring a clean and user friendly experience.
With over 100 pages, a lot of which were obsolete or unlinked, auditing the website and creating a concise sitemap was the first step to approaching the update.
Using Wix’s platform allowed access to multiple contributors, a locked members area and external plug-ins to the site. These plug-ins would be useful to all members with information such as Tide times and local safety reports.
Since 2016 I have been an active member and oarswoman of the club, attending Henley Women’s qualifiers for three consecutive years.
In 2018 I was elected as Development Captain for two years. The role included managing a large squad and planning outings with the coaches. Alongside this I managed, hosted and was heavily involved in the training of our annual recruitment drive, our ‘Learn to Row’ course.

In addition to the website redesign, the entire club had a refresh – from external comms including social to member’s kit.
